Easter Eggshell Surprise

Duration: short

Age: toddler, child

Skill for Bub: Just for fun, Parties celebration

summary:

Three age-appropriate ways to entertain your child using a package of multi-colored plastic eggshells.

For children, Easter means dyed eggs, chocolate bunnies, and marshmallow chicks. For toddlers, that could spell trouble. Celebrate the spring holiday without worry using a package of colourful eggshells in three creative ways:

Easter Egg Treasure Hunt

Instead of using real eggs, hide several plastic eggs in your backyard. Fill one of the eggs with a small toy. Be sure to count found eggs as you help your child put them in her basket. Once you have found them all, help your child open them up to reveal the prize. (Consider small toys instead of sugary treats.)

Bobbing for Eggs

As enjoyable as they are on the ground, plastic eggshells are also perfect bath time toys. Make learning fun by asking your child to count them as they float around.

Guess the Egg

Here’s an educational game to develop your child’s knowledge of maths and colours. Fill an empty egg carton with the plastic eggs. Put a small toy, such as a plastic ring, a roll of stickers, or a toy bug, inside one of them. As your child tries to find the prize, be sure to narrate by saying “Is it in the red egg? Is it in the blue egg?” As you take empty eggs out of the carton, you can also ask your child to count how many are left.
