Answer: Hi Sallie, This is a common issue, many babies change at around this age and stage and there's generally no one reason why. Perhaps it's due to a new developmental stage or just becoming more aware of what's going on around them. I appreciate this doesn't help much in your situation other than to know this is pretty normal. Sleep is a dynamic, constantly changing event/process. You'll find that what works one day may not work the next. There is rarely a smooth, continuous set of behaviours with infant sleep - it changes in the same way that the baby does. The fact that you're putting him into his cot awake and going through a regular pre settling ritual is good. He's learning what to expect comes next. Try the usual patting, shshing and soothing strategies when he was after one sleep cycle, rather than picking up up straight away. Even if this doesn't work in terms of him resettling you'll be giving him the chance to resettle. And check with your CHN that his weight is fine and he's having enough feeds a day/night to sustain his current growth and needs. Perhaps he needs extra feeds, if you've been one sided breastfeeding this may be the age to offer him the second side too. Hope this helps. And check the sleeping information on the Huggies site for responsive settling management. Cheers Jane
